The venerable Intercounty Baseball League, a bastion of summer ball in Canada, will play at Ottawa Stadium this season.
The Intercounty Baseball League, which dates back to 1919 and featured the likes of Ferguson Jenkins and Jessie Orosco as players over the years, will field a team in Ottawa Stadium for the 2010 season.
A team name still needs to be announced. The new Ottawa team will play in the 10,300-seat Ottawa Stadium, formerly the home to the Ottawa Lynx (Class AAA; International League) and independent Can-Am Association teams. The Can-Am Association and the independent Golden Baseball League had at one time sought leases for the facility.
"Canada's oldest baseball League applauds the efforts and tenacity of the Ottawa Stadium Group in their quest and perseverance in obtaining a stadium lease for one of North America's state-of-the-art facilities," said Joe O'Neill, IBL Commissioner.
