Loudoun supervisors OK new Atlantic League ballpark

Loudoun County officials approved zoning changes at the proposed Kimcora development that would allow construction of a privately financed, 5,700-seat ballpark for an independent Atlantic League team.

Loudoun County officials approved zoning changes at the proposed Kimcora developer that would allow construction of a privately financed, 5,700-seat ballpark for an independent Atlantic League team.

The Kimcora Village development, to be built at Routes 28 and 7 in suburban Washington, D.C., will be a mixed-use development anchored by the new ballpark, slated to open for the 2011 season. The 314-acre project will be built on land zoned for office space; that's the change required from supervisors.

Peter Kirk, who built ballparks for three other teams in the independent Atlantic League, has been working on this project as well. His partners include Hall of Famers Brooks Robinson and Harmon Killebrew, while VIP Baseball is the group working on the new team.
