Making the playoffs last season certainly helped; many fans buying playoff tickets decided to roll their unused ticket deposits to 2009 tickets, giving the team a base of about 14,000 season-ticket holders. Only one high-profile sponsor — Mercedes, whose brand adored the high-profile picnic area in right field — declined to renew for 2009, and given the great branding opportunity now open, it probably won’t be hard for the Brewers to find a replacement. And 40 of the team’s 44 suites are leased for the upcoming season.

So, it looks like the team’s decision to trade for C.C. Sabathia, triggering a playoff run, was a good financial one. And since no one expected Sabathia to return to Milwaukee, there was no letdown amongst fans. Operating in such a small market is always a challenge, but the Brewers seem to have a solid operation in place, both on the field and off.
