Atlantic League eyes Loudoun, Spencer ballparks

The independent Atlantic League is working on two ballpark projects in Virginia, covering both ends of the state.

In Loudoun, located in the northern part of the state, the league is working with developer NA Dulles Real Estate Investor LLC to place a team in Kincora Village, a mixed-use development near Route 28 and Nokes Boulevard south of Route 7. The proposal calls for a 5,500- to 6,500-seat ballpark, as explained in a filing the Loudoun Board of Supervisors.

Developers hope to receive permission for the 337-acre project, which also contains residential units and office space, within the next six weeks in anticipation of the 2010 season.

We have fewer details regarding Spencer, located in the southern part of the state, except to note discussions have taken place between local officials and Atlantic League owners.

If the ballparks were to come on line, they'd be occupied by expansion franchises, not by shifted teams.
