2019 Preview: Texas Rangers, Globe Life Park

Fowl Pole Globe Life Park

Ballpark Digest is previewing what every MLB team is doing to begin the season, both on and off the field, as the 2019 campaign is around the corner. Up next: the Texas Rangers and Globe Life Park.

For the Rangers, much of the focus is on the future. The 2019 season will be their last at Globe Life Park, as construction on the adjacent new retractable-roof ballpark known as Globe Life Field continues to proceed on schedule for a 2020 opening. Despite the fact that Globe Life Park’s days as a Major League Baseball facility are winding down, the Rangers have plenty of initiatives to make 2019 memorable–including new food items and a season-long celebration of Globe Life Park’s history.

Working with concessionaire Delaware North, the Rangers will provide several distinct items on Globe Life Park’s menu. One of those is the Fowl Pole (above), a two-pound hand-battered tender made by wrapping multiple chicken breasts together and served as part of an offering that includes waffle fries. The ballpark will also offer the RWB (Red White & Blue) Dog, which features red and blue dyed relish along with onions as part of its toppings.

A Fried PB&J sandwich is also on the Globe Life Park menu for 2019, providing a deep-fried twist on the classic offering. Bacon-wrapped wings are also among the new menu items for this year, featuring chicken wings wrapped in bacon and deep fried. Another bacon variation is the Right Field Bacon Bombs, a cuisine that includes provolone cheese wrapped in bacon strips, deep fried, and served with Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce.

While those are some of the highlights on this season’s menu, the Rangers have also made sure that Globe Life Park features vegan-friendly options. A Beyond Vegan Burger is part of that mix, as well as Vegan Street Tacos, and a Fresh Veggie Wrap.

The 2019 season will also celebrate the legacy of Globe Life Park, the home of the Rangers since 1994. With its MLB days about to end, the Rangers will pay tribute to the facility through several initiatives, including a special logo featured on a right sleeve patch on both the Rangers’ white and red home jerseys, the social media hashtag #FarewellGLP, and several promotional tie-ins. There are 15 giveaways in honor of the Rangers’ final season at the ballpark, starting with a Great Moments of Globe Life Park Calendar on March 31. Nine bobbleheads will also be part of that slate, along with three commemorative t-shirts, a final season logo hat, and a 2010 A.L. Pennant Scoreboard Replica.

While Globe Life Park will no longer host MLB action after the 2019 season, it will remain operational after the Rangers open their new ballpark. The new XFL will field a team there beginning next spring, and a larger conversion project could take place down the road.
