Oriole Park Certified LEED Gold

Oriole Park at Camden Yards

In the first such designation for an existing MLB ballpark, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles, has been awarded a LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Oriole Park and the accompanying B&O Warehouse, which was awarded with LEED Silver, demonstrate year-round sustainable activities and practices including waste management, recycling, paperless tickets, and reduced energy usage and electrical consumption.

“As the Orioles organization celebrates Earth Day this year, we are proud to join with the State of Maryland and Maryland Stadium Authority in announcing that Oriole Park at Camden Yards has been named the first existing building in Major League Baseball to receive the rarely conferred LEED Gold certification,” said John Angeles, Orioles Executive Vice President. “Through our many programs supporting Save the Bay, World Environment Day, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, wellness and yoga events, the Oriole Garden at Camden Yards in partnership with the National Wildlife Federation, and our Eat-Train-Live Like the Pro’s Health & Fitness Challenge, the Orioles organization will continue to prioritize protecting human health, plant-based and organic food sources, and the environment that the next generation will inherit.”

The Orioles will celebrate the certification on Sunday, April 22 — Earth Day. Additionally, all Orioles players and coaches will wear green-accented jerseys and caps to celebrate Earth Day as they take on the Cleveland Indians at 1:05 p.m. ET. The game-worn jerseys and caps will be autographed, authenticated, and auctioned online at www.orioles.com/auctions to benefit the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Marlins Park, home of the Miami Marlins, is the only MLB ballpark to open with a LEED Gold certification from the USGBC. Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, received LEED Gold certification for Operations and Management in 2017 (following LEED Silver recognition in 2011), but that came several years after the ballpark opened; at that time, Target Field received LEED Silver certification. Nationals Park also received LEED Silver certification upon opening, while AT&T Park achieved LEED Silver certification in 2010.
