If President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden are ready to box, the Lowell Spinners (Short Season A; NY-Penn League) will provide them with a venue. The fight would be held Friday, August 17th at 6:35 p.m. by the flag pole at LeLacheur Park. Former WBU light welterweight world champion and Lowell native Micky Ward has agreed to referee the fight.

The fight, billed as the “Slasher at LeLacheur,” will be held in response to Vice President Biden saying “If we were in high school, I would take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him.” The former Vice President’s comments prompted a fiery response from President Trump, who tweeted, “He doesn’t know me, but he would go down fast and hard, crying all the way.” Now the Spinners are offering the two the chance to settle their differences in the ring before a packed house of fans.

“It’s a shame this feud has escalated the way it has, and the American people deserve better. Instead of a war of words, let’s give the two of them a chance to settle their differences the old fashioned way, in the ring, with the great Micky Ward officiating,” said Spinners owner Dave Heller. “Boxing fans like me remember the ‘Thrilla in Manila’ and the ‘Rumble in the Jungle,’ but everybody, Republican and Democrat alike, would remember the ‘Slasher at LeLacheur!’”

In addition to the title fight, during the game the Spinners will also host a March Madness-style “Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em Robots Rumble” tournament in the ballpark. Contestants will have the opportunity to pick their fighter (red or blue) based on who they think will win the “Slasher at LeLacheur.” If the blue robot wins the tournament, the winner will receive free ice cream (a Biden favorite) for a year at LeLacheur Park and each blue fighter will win a free ice cream cone. If the red robot wins, the fan at the controls will receive free cheeseburgers (a Trump dining staple) at LeLacheur for a year, with each red fighter earning a free cheeseburger that evening.

Fans wishing to enter the “Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em Robots Rumble” event can sign up at lowellspinners.com or by calling the box office at (978) 459-1702. Registration is $15 and includes a box ticket to the game.

One important note: if the fighters show up, the boxing match will take place regardless of the weather, no matter how stormy may get.
