Las Vegas Ballpark to Break Ground February 23

Las Vegas ballpark rendering

A milestone is approaching in the construction of Las Vegas Ballpark, as the Las Vegas 51s (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) have announced a February 23 groundbreaking ceremony.

Set to be located in Downtown Summerlin, the new Las Vegas Ballpark will replace Cashman Field as the home of the 51s. More details about the event are expected to be released soon, but the 51s announced via Twitter on Tuesday that a groundbreaking ceremony for the ballpark is scheduled to take place on Friday, February 23.

Plans were announced last fall for the new Las Vegas Ballpark, a $150-million facility that will include 10,000 seats. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority’s (LVCA) has already approved a 20-year, $80-million naming rights agreement for the ballpark. As part of that deal, the LVCA will have the right to stage as many as 100 events annually at the facility.

The 51s have previously indicated that they could move into the new Las Vegas Ballpark as early as 2019. Once it does open, it will be the latest sports venue to be constructed in Downtown Summerlin, joining City National Arena, a training facility used by the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights.
