Salt Lake Bees

The Salt Lake Bees (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) have announced a promotion for Marc Amicone, who is now the club’s president/general manager. News of the promotion was announced by Steve Starks, president of Larry H. Miller Sports and Entertainment.

“The Salt Lake Bees have been a model franchise in all of professional sports largely due to Marc’s leadership and vision,” said Starks. “This new position reflects his importance to the operation of the Bees and our company mission of enriching lives in this community through sports and entertainment.”

Amicone has been with the Salt Lake franchise since 2005 serving as the general manager of the club. Under Amicone’s direction the Bees have surpassed six million fans in total attendance at Smith’s Ballpark over his 13 seasons.

Amicone was named the Pacific Coast League Executive of the Year in 2009 and guided the Bees to the 2015 Baseball America Bob Freitas Award as the top franchise in Triple-A baseball. In 2016, the Bees were the Pacific Coast League nominee for the John. H. Johnson award as the best operating franchise in Minor League Baseball. In 2017, Amicone was awarded the Larry H. and Gail Miller Values Award, presented annually in the Larry H. Miller group of companies. Along with his duties with the Bees, Amicone sits on the PCL Executive Committee as well as the MiLB Enterprises Board.

Before joining the Bees, Amicone served as the assistant athletics director for marketing at the University of Utah for 16 years. The Salt Lake City native began his career as an intern with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in 1979, becoming the club’s general manager eight years later. He was awarded the International Hockey League’s Executive of the Year award twice (1986-87 and 1987-88).

Amicone earned a bachelor’s degree in commercial recreation management and a master’s degree in sports management at the University of Utah. He also played baseball for the Utes from 1976-1979. His wife, Mary Kay, is currently the head softball coach at Weber State University and the couple have two sons, Trevor and Derek, and reside in South Weber, Utah.
