New Macon CPL Team: Season Tickets Heavy On the Food, Drink

Coastal Plain LeagueThe new Macon Coastal Plain League summer-collegiate team will be offering all you can eat and drink concessions as part of season-ticket plans for regular seating or a new VIP seating area at Luther Williams Field.

The return of baseball to historic Luther Williams Field is already shaping up to be one of the more intriguing developments of 2018. For the arrival of the Coastal Plain League, the ballpark–which originally opened in 1929–will receive $2.5 million in improvements. And now with the announcement that all-you-can-eat plans are on the agenda for season-ticket holders, the team owned by Steve DeLay and Jon Spoelstra is making waves in the Macon market.

It won’t be as extensive an all-you-can-eat plan found with the Savannah Bananas (summer collegiate; Coastal Plain League), where basically every ticket is an all-you-can-eat invitation. And several teams in the Northwoods League, including the Madison Mallards, have offered all-you-can-eat tickets for years. But for Macon, it will be a different kind of offering, with the installation of four tops in a VIP seating area and all-you-can-eat full-season and five- or ten-game season tickets. From the Macon Telegraph:

“What we wanted to do was create ticket packages for all of our fans,” team co-owner Steve DeLay said. “There’s ticket packages for the business community, ticket packages for big baseball fans, ticket packages for families, small businesses. All of them include unlimited food and drinks, all include the (ticket) exchange program and all will also include the easy payment plan.”…

Renovations will be made to the seating, field and locker room. There are also plans for new concession stands, beer garden, picnic area, kids play zone and a barbecue smokehouse, according to the team’s website….

“The market has been wildly enthusiastic,” DeLay said. “Being able to put to tickets on sale now I think its going to be great and now, as I’ve told our staff, we’re off to the races.”

DeLay and crew are also in the midst of a name-the-team contest, with the finalists being Macon BaconMacon HeatMacon Hits, Macon Noise, and Macon Soul.
