Extended Netting Installed at Dodd Stadium

Connecticut Tigers

Now that its installation is complete, the Connecticut Tigers (Short Season A; NY-Penn League) are planning to debut extended netting at Dodd Stadium.

A project had been underway to extend the protective netting at Dodd Stadium. The plan called for the netting, which previously spanned from section 9 on the first base side to section 13 on the third base side, to be expanded to provide coverage for sections 8-14. The new footprint allows for the netting to cover one more section at the home plate end of both dugouts.

The Tigers revealed on Monday that the project was complete, making their home game on Tuesday the first with the new netting. “The safety of our fans has always been and will always be of the utmost importance to us,” Tigers general manager Dave Schermerhorn said in an announcement (via The Day). “We take great pride in providing a safe and clean facility. This was a decision made in conjunction with the city of Norwich to protect our fans and meet the recommendation of Major League Baseball.”

It was in December 2015 that Major League Baseball originally unveiled its recommendation, and clubs in both the majors and minors have been working ever since to extend protective netting. The Tigers are certainly not alone in this trend for 2017, as a few teams in the majors and minors have rolled out similar initiatives for this season.
