The home of the High Desert Yardbirds (independent; Pecos League) has had many names in its history, and its latest will be Adelanto Stadium.
Opening in 1991, Adelanto Stadium has had a variety of names over the years–including Mavericks Stadium, Stater Bros. Stadium, and Heritage Field at Stater Bros. Stadium. Those monikers were employed at various points during the ballpark’s time hosting the High Desert Mavericks (High A; California League), who played at the facility through 2016, their final season before ceasing operations as part of the Carolina/California League realignment.
With the Yardbirds set to debut and officials targeting more non-baseball events for the facility, the ballpark will now be known as Adelanto Stadium. San Bernardino County Fair CEO/general manager Geoff Hinds confirmed that his agency looked into finding a corporate partner, but with the season approaching, opted to move forward with the Adelanto Stadium moniker. Staff with the Fair, which entered into an agreement with Adelanto a year ago to manage entertainment inside city limits, were unable to secure a naming rights partner for this year “in a short period,” Hinds said, although it is not viewed as a hurdle and the stadium has still accrued several partners, new and old.
“… (W)e decided that it was important to start a branding process of the new stadium,” he added, “to allow it to create and build a new identity prior to the start of this year’s baseball season and full calendar of events.”
“Adelanto Stadium,” which might have the colloquial appeal to counter the oft-used but long-outdated “Mavericks Stadium,” was revealed to the City Council last week, where Hinds briefed the dais on the creation of a new stadium logo and the intensive work performed thus far to revamp the stadium.
The Fair, working with its partners, has removed old signage, remodeled the conference room, added dust control panels to the first base side and painted old doors and dugout tops. The new all-green fence line was colored in “Yardbird Green” paint, although Hinds said it was unplanned.
The arrival of the Yardbirds was announced in December.
