Fire Frogs Draw Over 3,000 in Opener

Florida Fire Frogs

It was a solid debut at the gate for the Florida Fire Frogs (High A; Florida State League), who drew more than 3,000 fans to their opener on Thursday.

Thursday was the debut of the Fire Frogs at Osceola County Stadium, as the team has relocated from Space Coast Stadium in Viera, where it was known as the Brevard County Manatees. The inaugural game was met with a positive response, as the Fire Frogs reported a final attendance total of 3,283. In Viera, the franchise averaged 1,308 fans per-game, a mark that was preceded by tallies of 1,244 in 2015 and 1,286 in 2014.

The Fire Frogs’ debut also marked the return of Florida State League action to Osceola County Stadium. Prior to the Fire Frogs’ arrival, the ballpark’s last Florida State League club was the Kissimmmee Cobras, who played their final game at the facility in 2000.

On the field, the night ended in a loss for the Fire Frogs, who dropped a 3-1 contest to the Dayton Tortugas.
