Renovations to Perdue Stadium, home of the Delmarva Shorebirds (Low A; Sally League), have continued this offseason, with several new amenities coming to the ballpark.
Perdue Stadium opened in 1996 and has aged fairly well but, like other facilities of its era, had been due in recent years for some upgrades. Starting with a replacement of the playing surface and other improvements before the 2016 season, the ballpark has undergone a series of changes that will modernize several aspects of the facility.
Current work to the ballpark includes new seating, as the second-level metal bleachers are being replaced by traditional stadium seats. In addition, Shorebirds are putting a new video board into place–marking Perdue Stadium’s first video production upgrade since the facility opened.
Next year, the Shorebirds plan to complete the renovation by adding a new 360-degree concourse. Maryland governor Larry Hogan initially omitted state funds for further upgrades from his latest budget, but delegate Carl Anderton does not believe that will affect the project. “What I’ve been told is, it was inadvertent. I’m not sure what happened to the lines of communication, but the governor has never let us down yet,” Anderton told the Salisbury Independent this week.
“We should know something any time now, and certainly by the end of the legislative session in April,” Anderton said.
