This news was expected, but it has been confirmed that Clearwater’s Bright House Field will be renamed Spectrum Field.
The spring training home of the Philadelphia Phillies and regular season home of the Clearwater Threshers (High A; Florida State League) has been slated for a name change. Bright House Networks was acquired by Charter Communications in 2016, and Bright House’s services were rebranded as Spectrum. Therefore, it seemed inevitable that Charter would place the Spectrum brand on the ballpark, which was named Bright House Field from the time of its opening in 2004.
Word of a likely change to the facility’s name spread in December, and it has been confirmed by the Phillies and Charter. More from The Tampa Bay Times:
The Philadelphia Phillies and Charter announced the park’s name change Monday, part of Charter’s naming rights deal with the team. The field is the Phillies spring training facility and home of the minor league Clearwater Threshers.
Phillies officials say the signs with the new name aren’t up yet. But expect them soon.
The Spectrum brand has been added to more than one sports facility over the last several months. Last August, Charter’s purchase of Time Warner Cable led to a change in identity for the home of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, as Time Warner Cable Arena became the Spectrum Center.
