Ron Tonkin Field Slated for Upgrades

Hillsboro Hops

Some changes are afoot at Ron Tonkin Field, as the Hillsboro Hops (Short Season A; Northwest League) are planning a few ballpark upgrades.

As planned, the changes to Ron Tonkin Field would affect production and group space. An additional LED board is in the works, along with a brand new party area.

Given that technology and group spaces are a big part of the gameday experience, it makes sense for the Hops to address these areas. In doing so, the team hopes to enhance some aspects of the ballpark while meeting the expectations of fans. More from the Hillsboro Tribune:

The team will add more pop to between-innings entertainment in 2017 with a second LED scoreboard with more features. The club will also creates another “party deck” to meet the booming demand for private company and group parties. “Our party decks sold out almost every night this past summer,” [general manager K.L] Wombacher said.

Another key aspect to this is timing. Ron Tonkin Field will host the Northwest League vs. Pioneer League All-Star Game next summer, marking a first in the ballpark’s history, so having a new LED board and party area by that event will surely add to the night. Ron Tonkin Field opened in 2013.
