Personnel News: Smokies Promote Tim Volk

There is some personnel news to report, as the Tennessee Smokies (Class AA; Southern League) are promoting Tim Volk to a general manager position. His official title will be general manager-business operations. 

Volk served as Assistant General Manager this past season, and will handle all business operations on a day to day basis and maintain a position on the executive team for the club with his new role.

Volk will be entering his 4th season at the Smokies, as he rejoined the team for his second stint when he was named Director of Ticket and Group Sales in September of 2013 prior to being named Assistant General Manager for the 2016 season. He had previously spent three seasons with the Smokies as a Group Sales Representative and intern.

With the announcement of the promotion, Chris Allen who serves as the President and COO of the team states “We are delighted to promote Tim to this role, he has already proved himself to be a leader and now he gets the deserving title to go along with it. He has been a huge part of the transformation of the team in recent years, and we are excited to have him in a leadership role where he will manage day to day business operations for the Smokies.”

“I am very grateful and excited for the promotion,” added Volk. “I am looking forward to the opportunity as we continue to make positive strides within our organization as a whole.”

Since rejoining the team, Volk has played a large role in the transformation and success of the group sales and ticket sales departments. He made a huge impact with these departments previously with his positions that he held, and will continue to do so with his new leadership role with the team.

Prior to returning to the organization, Tim worked for TDS Telecommunications as a Sales Advisor and then with IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions at The University of Tennessee as a Senior Account Executive.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native is a graduate from UT with a degree in Sport Management, minoring in Business Administration and lives in North Knoxville with his wife, Mindy and daughter Savannah.
