Southwest League Coming to Royse City

Southwestern League

Southwest League of Professional Baseball team is slated for Royse City, as city and league officials are expected to make an announcement on Monday,

With experienced executive Mark Schuster and the Ventura Sports Group at the helm, the Southwest League will be the latest addition to the independent league landscape. The circuit is expected to launch in 2018 with at least six teams, all of which will be based in Texas.

As was noted last month, Bellmead has already been confirmed as one of the league’s charter cities. Plans for that ballpark call for a multipurpose facility that will include 2,000 fixed seats, plus additional general admission space. In addition, the facility will have a capacity of up to 10,000 for larger events. Though plans for more cities and ballparks beyond Bellmead and Royse City have not been reported, it is expected that Southwest League facilities will apply a formula that is similar to that of Bellmead.

The Royse City Independent School District approved a 15-year lease that calls for the construction of a new ballpark, according to the Herald Banner. The facility would be used for both the Southwest League of Professional Baseball and area high school games. More details are expected to be revealed at a press conference scheduled for this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. CDT.
