Contractors: We Could Resume Hartford Ballpark in September

Hartford Yard Goats

Centerplan Cos.  and DoNo, LLC are looking into how they could resume work on Dunkin’ Donuts Park, according to their attorney.

The future home of the Hartford Yard Goats (Class AA; Eastern League) is sitting in limbo amidst several outstanding issues. A terminated contract between the developers and the City of Hartford has resulted in multiple lawsuits–including one against the city, and another against the Yard Goats. Though those cases are pending, Centerplan Cos. and DoNo, LLC attorney Raymond Garcia says that both parties are currently exploring what it would take to resume work on the ballpark in September.

Right now, that issue is out of the hands of the City of Hartford and depends upon the results of an investigation from Arch Insurance. Hartford mayor Luke Bronin says the city will not act until that case is complete. More from the Hartford Courant:

At a press conference outside his office Wednesday afternoon, Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin said that it was up to Arch whether it brings back Centerplan and DoNo Hartford “on their own dime and with their oversight.”

“Our goal was to get Arch to come in and take over,” the mayor said.

Asked whether construction could resume in September, Bronin said the former developers “seem to live in their own reality” but added that that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen.

Bronin said that Arch has not completed its investigation and that there is no timeline for doing so.

Hartford did take a step recently toward completing the ballpark, as it paid an outstanding debt to Pendulum. That bill–worth more than $245,000–assures that Pendulum will continue to oversee the design of Dunkin’ Donuts Park, but finding a contractor to finish the project will be a separate issue.
