After a successful tenure at the helm for the Nashville Sounds (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League), COO and general manager Garry Arthur is retiring. Last year Arthur oversaw a strong inaugural season at First Tennessee Park, a ballpark that opened to much acclaim.
Arthur has overseen all day-to-day operations of the club since he was named to the position in January 2015 after serving as a senior advisor to Sounds ownership dating back to MFP Baseball LLC’s acquisition of the club in 2009.
“I’ve been with four teams during my lengthy career in baseball and this experience has been the best,” said Arthur. “Frank Ward’s ownership has allowed me to have input into First Tennessee Park, which I’m immensely proud of.
“What we’ve built here in Nashville is very special. Along with this state-of-the-art facility, we have a staff that’s loaded with experience and always comes together when it’s important. For that, I’m thankful,” Arthur continued.
Arthur will use his time in retirement to spend more time with family in his native Vancouver.
“I, along with our entire staff, will miss Garry. His insight and experience have been invaluable over the past several years as we progressed through the planning and construction of First Tennessee Park, to the assembly of our current staff, and to the execution of the fan experience and daily operations at this wonderful ballpark,” said Sounds owner Frank Ward. “I cannot thank Garry enough for all that he has brought to this franchise. I wish him nothing but the best in his retirement.”
Beginning immediately, Ward will take over the day-to-day operations of the Sounds while the team identifies Arthur’s replacement.
