New for 2016: Savannah Bananas

Savannah Bananas

We have the name and branding for the newest summer-collegiate Coastal Plain League team, playing out of historic Grayson Stadium: the Savannah Bananas, which beat out Anchors and Ports in a choice among the final three fan-submitted monikers.

“We are tremendously excited to welcome a new era of baseball to Grayson Stadium by introducing the new Banana brand to the Savannah community,” said Owner Jesse Cole. “After nearly 1,000 suggestions, we felt that the name Bananas was one of the most unique names and unlike any other sports team name in the country. We feel Savannah is such a unique and special city, that the community deserves a unique brand that stands out.”

In November, team owner Fans First Entertainment partnered with the Savannah Morning News to host a Help Name the Team contest. Nearly 1,000 suggestions were entered between the Savannah Morning News and the Savannah Baseball websites. In early December the team narrowed it down to five names: Savannah Anchors, Savannah Bananas, Savannah Party Animals, Savannah Ports and Savannah Seagulls. In the weeks leading up to the name reveal party, the team eliminated Party Animals and Seagulls. Local Savannah resident Lynn Moses was selected as the winner of the Help Name the Team Contest.

“Savannah Bananas fits our brand of making baseball fun for fans of all ages and our mission of Fans First, Entertain Always,” said President Jared Orton. “In the years to come, we will be able to have a lot of fun with this brand and hope the community joins in and goes Bananas with us!”

The addition of the Bananas puts the Coastal Plain League at 16 teams for the 2016 season. Fans First Entertainment also owns the Gastonia Grizzlies in the same circuit, while previously managing the Martinsville Mustangs.
