Reading sets single-game attendance mark

Reading Fightin Phils

Another attendance mark to report: the Reading Fightin Phils (Class AA; Eastern League) set a single-game record Saturday night, when 9,970 fans passed though the turnstiles at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The game featured Mega Blast VI—the largest fireworks show in Baseballtown history—and a performance by the Fightin Phils Mascot Band during the pre-game.

The attendance marks set up an interesting battle of the box office with the Richmond Flying Squirrels; in recent years Richmond and Reading have been fighting it out for top dog in Eastern League attendance. Entering today’s games, with 60 gate openings in 2015, Reading leads the Eastern League in average attendance with 6,024 fans per game. The Fightins trail the Richmond Flying Squirrels (62 openings) by just 2,757 for the 2015 total attendance mark, but we still have over two weeks left in the regular season.
