Giants adding biometrics to AT&T Park entry

San Francisco GiantsIt will be a little quicker for season-ticket holders to enter AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants, as the team will be offering biometric fingerprint recognition through a designated lane at Willie Mays Plaza.

The service, offered by vendor CLEAR, allows season-ticket holders to register their fingerprints at the ballpark. Once approved, they can begin using the Fast Access lane at AT&T Park’s Willie Mays Plaza to enter the game.

“The San Francisco Giants are pleased to partner with CLEAR and offer to our fans a faster alternative to entering the ballpark,” said Jorge Costa, Giants senior vice president of ballpark operations. “We strive to be innovators in ballpark technology and fan experience. By partnering with CLEAR, we now have access to technology that will enhance security while greatly improving the experience of our fans.”

“We are thrilled to partner with the World Champion San Francisco Giants to redefine the experience for fans who enter AT&T Park through our Fast Access lane. CLEAR’s mission is to strengthen security and provide a frictionless customer experience using our secure biometric identity platform,” said Caryn Seidman Becker, CLEAR CEO. “With Fast Access powered by CLEAR, San Francisco Giants fans are able to speed through the line, and enjoy more game time with less wait time.”

The technology doesn’t address one big roadblocks for fans waiting in line: bags must still be manually checked.

Though the technology isn’t used in pro sports, it is used elsewhere in the entertainment industry: anyone who has visited a Disney World theme park in the last several years has experienced biometric scanning at the front gates.
