Clinton, Mariners commit to two-season PDC extension

Another Clinton LumberKingsPDC: the Clinton LumberKings (Low Class A; Midwest League) and the Seattle Mariners extended their player development contract through the 2016 season.

The current two-year deal between the two parties was set to expire at the end of September.

As an affiliate of the Mariners since 2009, the LumberKings have made the Midwest League playoffs four times in six years, which included a franchise record wins in a single half with 48 in the second half of 2012.

“We are very grateful for our continued partnership with Seattle,” said Clinton general manager Ted Tornow. “Our six seasons with the Mariners have been very successful. We have seen many talented players in Seattle’s organization since we became partners in 2009, and have enjoyed seeing their progress towards the majors.

With the renewal, Seattle will become the longest tenured MLB club with the LumberKings. The partnership will surpass the six-year relationship between Clinton and the Texas Rangers that ended after the 2008 season.

Here’s a look at the current affiliate status in Minor League Baseball.
