River Cats prep for Raley Field upgrades

Raley Field upgrade

The Sacramento River Cats (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) are planning some serious upgrades to Raley Field this offseason, adding an enclosed 5,000-square-foot club with a bar and patio.

The 5,000-square-foot club, overlooking left field and open to all season-ticket holders, already has a naming-rights partner and will be called the Western Health Advantage Legacy Club. From the Sacramento Bee:

The addition comes after about a year of discussion and shopping around for a partner organization to help finance the project before a deal was struck with Western Health Advantage, a health insurer based in Sacramento.

There are two other exclusive-seating clubs at Raley Field, the Diamond Club behind home-plate and the speakeasy-style Jack Daniel’s Solon Club, neither of which are enclosed. The Legacy Club, which will be built on the same rooftop level that holds the field’s private suites, will offer extra seating, air conditioning and a view of downtown Sacramento….

“The addition of the Legacy Club is an important turning point for the River Cats in being able to accommodate their constantly growing and evolving fan base … in a more social environment,” said David Bower, principal of Populous, the architect for the project, in a prepared statement.

It was originally announced construction would begin Sept. 1, but that might be put off: the River Cats are also in the midst of offering playoff tickets.

There should be plenty of other changes at Raley Field for 2015; the word is that the team will have the San Francisco Giants as a new MLB parent. Of course, announcements like this cannot be made until the end of the 2014 season. The River Cats’ current parent is the Oakland Athletics.
