Simmons Field reno renderings unveiled

Simmons Field renovations

The owners of the new summer-collegiate Northwoods League team in Kenosha unveiled renderings of the renovations to Simmons Field, the longtime home to pro ball in the Wisconsin city, set for the 2014 season.

The “First Pitch” event tonight featured a live brass band, entertainment from the nationally known Zooperstars and the unveiling of $1 million in ballpark renovations. Over 250 guests were treated to free Bacon Glazer Doughnut Cheese Burgers, brats and peanuts.

The “First Pitch” event also featured appearances from City of Kenosha Mayor Keith Bosman (middle, above), Northwoods League President Dick Radatz Jr. and Kenosha Baseball owners Steve Schmitt, Vern Stenman (left, above) and Conor Caloia(right, above). An 11-year lease agreement between the City of Kenosha and the Northwoods League was also signed by Mayor Bosman, Radatz and Schmitt. Construction on the 83-year-old historic Simmons Field is scheduled to start later this spring. Renovation plans include:

  • Major League style folding stadium seats from Oriole Park in Baltimore.
  • An expanded concrete seating structure offering more seats with better sight lines.
  • Hospitality areas for group entertainment.
  • An updated and expanded concession area and courtyard.
  • New dugouts and field perimeter brick wall.
  • A new, indoor souvenir store that will be open year-round.

A community “Help Name Your Team” Contest was announced in partnership with the Kenosha News. Kenosha Baseball is looking to the community to help decide the name of the area’s newest team. Everyone is encouraged to get involved by submitting their idea for the name of the team to www.kenoshanews.com/nameyourteam.
