It sounds like Middlesex County (N.J.) is ready to make another run at professional baseball, as Freeholder Director Christopher D. Rafano says county officials will work on a public/private partnership on a new facility.
Not much else was discussed, as Rafano made the announcement during his annual director’s address, outlining county activities for the year ahead. He described a public/private partnership that would provide a new ballpark at no cost to taxpayers.
This wouldn’t be the first time the county broached the issue of pro baseball: in 2007 Somerset Patriots (independent; Atlantic League) owner Steve Kalafer worked on a plan for a new ballpark along Route 33, in the southern part of the county.
