Pelicans, Fisher Cats approaching 3M attendance mark

Myrtle Beach PelicansTwo franchises are approaching the three-million attendance mark in team history: the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (High Class A; Carolina League) and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Class AA; Eastern League).

The Pelicans need just 4,302 more fans in attendance this season to hit the milestone, and the team expects to celebrate it this weekend. Myrtle Beach has seen 165,621 fans come out to 51 games at TicketReturn.com Field this season. That total brings the all-time regular season attendance number up to 2,995,698 since the team’s 1999 inception.

“This is a remarkable milestone for baseball on the Grand Strand,” said Pelicans General Manager Scott Brown. “The amount of support from local communities and tourists alike has been just amazing over the last decade-plus. We’re not able to continue to provide the entertainment we do without fans embracing the team and ballpark as their own. They’ve answered that bell, above and beyond, time and time again. This is just a special way to say thanks!”

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats are expecting their three millionth fan during the team’s next homestand from August 14-19. In 2012, the Fisher Cats have posted an attendance of 285,435, leaving them 27,477 shy of three million entering tonight’s series finale with Erie. With an average attendance of 5,597 this season, the team is on target to surpass 300,000 for the seventh consecutive year.

The three-million mark comes just two seasons after the team welcomed the two-millionth fan in May of 2010. The team reached one million fans during the 2007 season.
