PETA cites Citizens Bank Park, Hammond Stadium for veggie offerings

Citizens Bank Park

The best vegetarian ballpark food can be found at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, and Hammond Stadium, home of the Fort Myers Miracle, according to PETA’s annual rankings.

The advocacy group has released rankings of veggie offerings at ballparks for 11 years now.

“Tasty vegetarian food is sweeping the nation, and that trend is especially apparent at the ballpark,” says PETA Associate Director Chris Holbein. “Fans who care about their health, the environment, and animals can score big every time they visit the concession stands.”

From the press release:

After a run of four consecutive titles before being bumped last year, the Philadelphia Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park has retaken first place. Heavy hitters include the meatless “Pit Beef” slathered with barbecue sauce, vegan chicken steak, faux-chicken patty sandwich, and Italian vegetable grinder. Climbing to a strong second place after receiving only an honorable mention in last year’s competition is Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners. Vegan specialties include the IchiBan veggie dog with teriyaki-glazed onions, grated daikon and carrot, shredded nori, and creamy vegan dressing; the Seattle chili veggie dog with vegan cream cheese; pasta with vegetables; and tangy hummus. Multiple Major League Baseball stadiums have also started serving vegan sloppy Joes made with tempeh, called “Sloppy Janes.”

Topping the minor-league rankings for the second consecutive year is Hammond Stadium, home of the Fort Myers Miracle. This year’s lineup includes a vegan cheeseburger, veggie tacos, a veggie dog, vegetarian baked beans, and the fruit-and-vegetable platter.
