Sky Sox scrap game because of fire conditions

Colorado Springs Sky SoxMinor League Baseball is affected by wildfires raging through Colorado, as tonight’s game between the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and the Tacoma Rainiers (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) has been postponed.

The specific cause, as stated by the Sky Sox: the game has been indefinitely postponed because of smoke and poor air quality caused by the Waldo Canyon Fire. A make-up date will be announced at a later time.

We’re guessing there will be future postponements as well: parts of Colorado Springs are under mandatory evacuation, as the wildfire has hit the city and is moving from building to building. The fire is located in the northwest quadrant of the greater Colorado Spring area; Security Service Field is in the northeast quadrant of the city. We’re not talking about a huge distance here: the Air Force Academy, which is being evacuated, is some 13 miles away from Security Service Field.
