Stockton lands another college championship tourney

Stockton PortsBanner Island Ballpark and the Stockton Ports (High Class A; California League) added another NCAA conference tourney: the California Collegiate Athletic Association Baseball Championship.

The tourney is set to take place at the ballpark May 9-12.

“We are very pleased to be returning to Stockton for the 2013 CCAA Baseball Championship Tournament,” said CCAA Commissioner Robert J. Hiegert.  “The CCAA has partnered with the City of Stockton and the Stockton Convention & Visitors Bureau to hold both our softball and baseball championships in Stockton in recent years. Banner Island Ballpark is a beautiful facility and we are thrilled to add the Stockton Ports as a partner as we continue our long relationship with Stockton and the Central Valley.”

The CCAA tournament will feature a 4-team, double-elimination format tournament played over a three-day period (a fourth day is an “if necessary” game). The conference consists of twelve schools: Cal State Pomona, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State East Bay, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Monterey, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Stanislaus, Chico State, Humboldt State, San Francisco State, Sonoma State and UC San Diego. As a baseball conference, the CCAA is pretty decent, so fans will see some good baseball on the field.

“We’re proud to announce that Banner Island Ballpark is now going to serve as the host of this event,” Ports Director of Business Development Tim Pasisz said.
