Pro baseball returns to Schaumburg

Schaumburg BoomersThe Schaumburg Boomers (independent; Frontier League) kicked off their home schedule last night with a  5-2 victory over the Florence Freedom before 6,067 fans.

As you’ll recall, there was no pro baseball in Schaumburg last year after the Schaumburg Flyers (independent; Northern League) were evicted and folded under a sea of debt. Now, we’re going to rehash the whole sordid affair — you can wade through the archives on your own — but suffice it to say there’s a happy ending involved, with Pat Salvi owning the team, an energetic front office in place and ballpark upgrades, including a new scoreboard, installed. We’ll be there next week to report on the new world of baseball in Schaumburg.
