Blue Wahoos: Success means ballpark upgrades

Pensacola Blue WahoosThe early success of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (Class AA; Southern League) means their home, Blue Wahoos Park, will receive some ballpark upgrades in coming weeks.

The big item: a new auxiliary scoreboard to be finished by the June 13 homestand. The new board will be installed on the façade of the press box and will display the line score, count, number of outs and, of course, the score.

The project is a direct result of fan surveys conducted by the Blue Wahoos to continually improve the game experience for Blue Wahoo fans.  Blue Wahoos Vice President Jonathan Griffith said the fan surveys are an important part of the organization’s customer-service approach. “We send out email surveys after every game to a randomly selected group of fans, and we review those results after every home game.  So we hope fans will pay attention to those emails, and let us know what we’re doing well and how we can improve, because we’re listening and acting on their feedback.”

Approval for the additional scoreboard comes from the Community Maritime Park Associates.

“This is a fantastic addition to our beautiful new stadium,” said CMPA chairman Collier Merrill. “All of us on the CMPA board are in support of the Blue Wahoos goal of providing the ultimate fan experience at games. We understand the need for this addition and appreciate the Blue Wahoos willingness to provide the CMPA with this enhancement to the public facility.”

Not only is the stadium getting a new scoreboard, but fans with reserved seats will notice upgraded seating. Reserved seating bleacher sections are now being replaced by fixed seats to match those that are found throughout the rest of the main seating bowl.

The upgrade is being privately funded by team owners Quint and Rishy Studer as a donation to the City of Pensacola.
