Toros settle suit; will go gently into that good night

Tucson TorosThe Tucson Toros (independent; North American League) are going away after settling a lawsuit — on fairly favorable terms — over an eviction from Hi Corbett Field.

Toros owner Jay Zucker settled with the city for $300,000 and announced he was folding the franchise, according to KOLD. He filed suit earlier this year, saying Tucson had no right to evict him from a lease at Hi Corbett Field, even though the team went on hiatus in 2011 after the Tucson Padres (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) moved to town. The city based the eviction on the lack of a team playing at the ballpark.

After the eviction, the city agreed to lease the ballpark to the University of Arizona Wildcats. Hi Corbett Field is the former spring home of the Colorado Rockies and Cleveland Indians, as well as several affiliated minor-league teams.
