Nice promotion for the Gary SouthShore RailCats (independent; American Association) legendary competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi will take on five ‘Cats fans at U.S. Steel Yard during an Aug. 17 appearance.
Competitive eating is just what it sounds like: folks face off to see how much they can eat in a given period of time. In the States, the most famous contest is the Nathan’s Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest, which Kobayashi won six consecutive times. He held the world record for hot dog eating for nearly six years and is currently the unofficial record holder for most hot dogs eaten in 10 minutes with 69.
In addition to his hot-dog-eating prowess, Kobayashi holds several other eating records, including Guinness Records for hot dogs, meatballs, hamburgers and pasta despite his relatively small stature. The training methods for the 125-pounder have been well-documented as Kobayashi expands his stomach for competition by eating progressively larger amounts of food and then exercises to ensure that fat will not impeded the expansion of his stomach.
He’ll take on five RailCats fans during his Aug. 17 appearance. The team is still working on a food for the competition; word is that a Chicago deep-dish pizza may be thef food of choice. Kobayashi has been known to eat a large pizza in under a minute. He’ll also be signing autographs.
