In Memphis, the race for the rib, rub and more

Memphis Rib Race

The Milwaukee Brewers have the famous racing sausages, but the Memphis Redbirds (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) added their own local twist to a nightly mascot race: the team’s promotion includes a pulled-pork sandwich and a rib.

AutoZone Park is renowned for the availability of Rendezvous ribs at the concession stands; the ballpark sits just a few blocks from the legendary rib joint. So it seems natural that the team’s mascot race would focus on a food so closely associated with the city. The race features a container of dry rub, barbecue sauce, a pulled-pork sandwich and a rib (as shown above).

The Redbirds unveiled the race this past weekend.
