Front-office changes in Gary, Charleston, Nashville

Charleston RiverDogsIf it’s the offseason, it’s time for front-office changes. We have three today: David Cullins promoted by the Charleston RiverDogs (Low Class A; Sally League), Aaron Pineda returns to the Gary SouthShore RailCats (independent; American Association), and Janell Bullock moves to the Nashville Sounds (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League).

Cullins, who served as the RiverDogs Box Office Assistant this past season, has been promoted to the manager’s position, according to general manager Dave Echols.

Cullins replaces Noel Blaha, who in November was named as the RiverDogs Director of Promotions.

“I am very excited about this opportunity,” said Cullins. “I had a great experience with my internship with the RiverDogs and am looking forward to joining the staff on a full-time basis.”

Cullins, who hails from Clements, Md., is a recent graduate of Coastal Carolina University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Sport Management in May 2010.  He worked with the RiverDogs in their advanced internship program this past season and excelled in the box office.

“For a young man who recently graduated from college, David possesses a good amount of experience in box office operations,” said Echols.  “I was impressed with his eagerness to grasp our ‘fans-first customer service approach’ and his focus to details.  We were pleased with his work as an intern to the point that he earned this promotion.”

The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the return of Aaron Pineda, who previously worked for the club from 2003-2008, to the front office where he will serve as the club’s Group Sales Manager.

A veteran of seven seasons in minor-league baseball, including six with the RailCats, Pineda reunites with the organization where he held a number of different positions during his previous stint. Pineda joined the RailCats during its inaugural season at U. S. Steel Yard as an usher in 2003-04 before becoming the Clubhouse Manager in 2005. Pineda went on to be named the RailCats Media Relations Assistant in 2006, a position he held until adding Ticket Sales Executive to his title in 2007 and being named Director of Media Relations and Ticket Sales Executive in 2008.

Kinston Indians (High Class A; Carolina League) assistant general manager Janell Bullock is the new merchandise manager for the Nashville Sounds.

“It has been an unbelievable experience working for the team I grew up watching,” Bullock said. “I will truly miss all the fans and I hate saying goodbye during the 25th year with the Indians, but the opportunity to work for a Triple-A team is too good to pass up.”

Bullock, a Bear Grass, N.C. native, interned for the Indians in 1998 and ’99 before working for the Delmarva Shorebirds (Low Class A; Sally League). She returned to Kinston as assistant general manager in 2008.
