The Beloit Snappers (Low Class A; Midwest League) are still working on plans for a new ballpark, with the projected site near the intersection of Interstates 43 and 90.
That's not necessarily news; the Snappers have been working on plans for a new ballpark for years. But now things are getting to the stage where GM Jeff Vohs is warning that the future of baseball in Beloit lies in a new ballpark and not outdated Pohlman Field. You've got to give Snappers Chairman of the Board Dennis Conerton and crew a lot of credit: they're to the point where they're looking at a privately financed facility in order to keep pro ball in Beloit. Whether the economy and the credit markets will allow for a new ballpark remains to be seen, but the Snappers actually managed to increase attendance last season in the face of an extremely rough local economy.
