New CWS ballpark signs first tenant: Creighton

Under the agreement, Creighton University will play a partial schedule at TD Ameritrade Park in 2011 and a full slate beginning in 2012.

Creighton University is the first tenant at downtown Omaha's new College World Series ballpark, TD Ameritrade Park, as the Blue Jays signed a deal to play a partial schedule there in 2011 and a full schedule in 2012. No surprise: Creighton was always part of discussions for a downtown Omaha ballpark, even back when the Omaha Royals (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) were pushing a NoDo location.

The signing could be the first of several for TD Ameritrade Park; rumors about the management pursuing other tournaments, such as the Missouri Valley Conference tourney, as well as other events.

We do continue to hear that the independent American Association and Northern League have little interest in putting a team in TD Ameritrade Park; some numbers have been crunched, and they were not very encouraging.
